The Jenifer Altman Foundation
home about us areas of interest grant

Our lives are touched by those who lived centuries ago, and we hope that our lives will mean something to those who will live centuries from now. It's a great 'chain of being,' someone once told me, and I think our job is to hope, to dream and to do the best we can to hold up our small segment of that chain.

Guidelines/How to Apply

To determine if your organization may be eligible for a grant, please review our areas of interest.

Concept Letter

Before writing a full proposal, please send us a brief concept letter which tells us about your organization, outlines your project and states the amount you seek. If you already have a prepared proposal that you are sending to other foundations, you may send it. Email is preferred, but concept letters or proposals may be sent by mail, facsimile or e-mail.

After we have reviewed your concept letter or proposal, if we believe there is a possible fit with our interests, we will request a full application, which must include the following items:

1. A completed Grant Application Cover Sheet [html].
2. A brief proposal describing: project goals, work-plan and strategies to achieve these goals, and criteria against which the project can be evaluated.
3. Budgets for both the project and the organization.
4. A copy of the organization's or Fiscal Sponsor's current IRS determination letter indicating 501(c)(3) charitable status. If another organization is acting as your fiscal sponsor, we will need a copy of their 501(c)(3) letter and a letter from them stating they are willing to assume legal and fiscal responsibility for the grant.
5. The names and affiliations (where appropriate) of your Board of Directors.

No Application Deadlines

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed as they are received. We will respond in most cases within one to three months. If your project is time sensitive, please indicate that in your cover letter or call our office to let us know. Please understand that we cannot respond in a personalized way to every proposal. However, if you have any questions regarding our response, please feel free to contact our Grants Administrator, Ashley Iwanaga, at 415-561-2187 or by email.

Please do not send DVDs, videotapes, CDs, books, samples, etc. unless requested. If sent to us unsolicited, these materials will not be returned.

Thank you for your interest in applying to the Foundation. We wish you success in your effort to achieve a socially just and ecologically sustainable world.
