On occasion, the Jenifer Altman Foundation awards grants of $5,000
to individuals who have made significant contributions to human
health or the health of the earth. The Foundation does not accept
unsolicited proposals in this category.
LENORE LEFER
For many years of exceptional direct service to people facing cancer,
heart disease, AIDS, and other life-threatening diseases. Her special
gifts as a therapist and group leader transform the lives of the
people who seek wisdom, healing and solace from her.
ANDREA RAVINETT MARTIN (1946 - 2003)
For outstanding work around the prevention and treatment of breast
cancer: from public and legislative education to the fight for funding
and better clinical services for women of all economic backgrounds.
She founded The Breast Cancer Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated
to her life-affirming vision.
PETER WARSHALL
For pioneering and wide-ranging work toward a more just and sustainable
world. He has worked as a naturalist, an anthropologists, and is
a public intellectual for our time, educating an international community
of readers through Whole Earth magazine and other publications.
DIANE WILSON
For courage and dedication in educating people about the chemical
tragedy of Bhopal, India. A fourth generation fisherman and long
time environmental activist, she is the inspiration behind UnReasonable
Women for the Earth, founded in 2002. She co-founded Code Pink in
response to the war in Iraq. She has protested the pollution of
5 major chemical plants and has stood in solidarity with strikers
in India against the Dow/Union Carbide 1984 chemical disaster.
